CAIL Donor Privacy Policy 

The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. We have developed this privacy policy to ensure our donors know that CAIL will not share their personal information with any third party. CAIL will keep confidential the information of all of our donors. CAIL provides this Donor Privacy Policy to make you aware of our privacy policy and to inform you of the way your information is used. We also provide you with the opportunity to remove your name from our mailing list, if you desire to do so.

We collect and maintain the following types of donor information when it is voluntarily provided to us:

• Contact information such as name, organization or business, complete address, telephone number(s), and email address. 
• Information on events attended, publications received, and special requests for program information.
• Information provided by the donor in the form of comments and suggestions.
• Requests to receive periodic updates: e.g., to individuals who request it, we will send periodic mailings and/or e-mails related to specific fundraising events or appeals, and newsletters.

CAIL uses your information to complete a transaction, communicate back to you, and update you on CAIL programs and events.  CAIL uses credit card numbers only for one-time donation or payment processing and does not retain them for other purposes. To the extent a third-party service provider processes any donations, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.

CAIL will not sell, rent, exchange or lease your personal information to other organizations. We assure you that CAIL will keep confidential the identity of all our donors.  Use of donor information will be limited to the internal purposes of CAIL. 

CAIL may use aggregated information to analyze overall giving patterns in order to make more accurate budget projections, as well as to understand donor’s interests in our mission. CAIL may share this information with staff and/or consultants but only on a confidential and need-to-know basis.

It is not CAIL’s intent to send unwanted mail to our donors. CAIL e-mail communications provide a mechanism to have your address removed from our contact list. CAIL also provides you with the opportunity to exclude your name from or be listed as anonymous on any donor lists. You also have the option to opt out of any direct mail program.

CAIL Privacy Policy

Updated 8/11/21 – The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) places a high priority on protecting your privacy. CAIL established this privacy policy in order to demonstrate CAIL’s firm commitment to the privacy of our members, supporters, participants, and website users.

This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by CAIL’s website, www.cailaw.org, except where stated otherwise. The intent of this Policy is to provide you information regarding:

• What information (personal and non-personal) we collect;
• How we use and secure your information;
• Where we communicate policy changes; and
• How to communicate with us.

What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected

CAIL members that register for www.cailaw.org and individuals that sign up to receive CAIL’s and its institutes’ e-communications voluntarily provide us with contact information (such as name, address, phone number, organizational contact, billing information, and e-mail address.) We may use this information for specific, limited purposes as further described in this Policy.

• Financial Transactions: To process a financial transaction such as event or program registration or membership payment, CAIL must gather the user’s name, email address, mailing address, phone and credit card information. CAIL will only use this data to verify identity and execute the financial transaction. If there is a problem with the transaction, CAIL will contact the user via their phone number or email address. CAIL uses a service provider such as a merchant bank to conduct the transaction. CAIL only uses credit card numbers at the time of the transaction and does not store them.

We may also receive personally identifiable information of individuals from our program co-sponsors.

What Non-personal Data is Collected

Website Analytics: As users interact with www.cailaw.org, we may also collect non-personally identifiable information about your browsing history, search terms, browser information, computer type, operating system, internet service providers, website usage, date/time stamp, number of clicks, etc. We collect that non-personal data by using technologies such as cookies, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and other tools.

• Cookies: “Cookies” are small text files that a website can use to recognize repeat users, facilitate ongoing access to and use of the website, and allow a website to track usage and collect aggregate data in order to improve the website. CAIL’s website www.cailaw.org uses “cookies” in a variety of ways to help provide better services. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you have done and told us before. The “cookie” is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our website. They let us track your usage of www.cailaw.org, so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your Web browser accordingly.

  CAIL’s website contains links to other sites. There is a possibility that those external sites may use cookies to collect a visitor’s personal information. CAIL cannot control the use of cookies by sites linked to our site.

• IP Addresses: CAIL uses your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our website www.cailaw.org, and for statistical metrics used to track website visitor traffic. IP addresses are not linked to any user’s personal information. CAIL uses IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the website, track volume usage, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. CAIL uses this information to help measure the number of visitors to different sections of www.cailaw.org and to help make the site more useful.

How Your Information May Be Used

We use your personal information to provide you with personalized service; to send e-mail alerts to you; to answer your requests; to process your membership application; to administer your program registration; or handle your donation; etc. We may also use your information to track visits of our website. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs. It also lets us provide aggregate data about our traffic, not identifying you personally, but for example, showing how many visitors used which features. You may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from us.

• Membership Directories and Registration Lists: In order to allow our members and supporters to find you, we may publish some personally identifiable information that you provide on this site and in other print or electronic media. This would include membership rosters, committee lists, event and program registration. If we co-sponsor a program with another organization, information may be shared between the parties. All such co-sponsors will be identified on the event details and registration page. We will never publish your sensitive data such as credit card or bank information. We may also use and disclose your Personal Information as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable law, which may include laws outside your country of residence, to respond to requests from public and government authorities, which may include authorities outside your country of residence, to cooperate with law enforcement, or for other legal reasons; (b) to enforce our Terms of Use; (c) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you or others.

Security

CAIL uses reasonable precautions to host and maintain www.cailaw.org in a secure manner and to safeguard it from unauthorized access. CAIL relies on commercial security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or alteration, disclosure, or destruction of data. However, no transmission through the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so you submit your information at your own risk.

• Email Privacy: Your email address will only be used by CAIL. We will not provide, sell, or rent email addresses to anyone outside CAIL.
• External Links: CAIL’s website www.cailaw.org includes links to external websites. These links do not fall under the www.cailaw.org domain, and CAIL is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. Your use of any linked website is solely at your own risk.

Photo/Audio/Video Release

Registration for or attendance at this event acknowledges consent to be recorded or photographed. We reserve the right to use any photograph/video taken at our events, without the expressed written permission of those included within the photograph/video. We may use the photograph/video in publications or other media material produced, used or contracted including but not limited to: brochures, invitations, books, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, annual reports, newsletters, etc. To ensure the privacy of individuals, images will not be identified using full names or personal identifying information without written approval from the photographed subject.

Modifications to Policy

We may amend this privacy policy from time to time; please review it periodically. We maintain the option to modify this privacy at any time by electronic notice posted on our website. We deem your agreement to the changed terms by your continued use of our website after the posting date of such notices.
